"It is true, the spoken word enlightens both the spirit and the soul. Indeed, the HENDRICK’S Master Distiller can often be heard talking at length to her ‘two little sweeties’ – the delightful and peculiarly small copper pot stills from which the most unusual gin flows." |
DUMB BRITAIN
With Marcus Berkmann
Thursday the 7th of April 2011 Doors at 6 pm, Show commences at 7 pm
We British are justly proud of our intellectual heritage (Shakespeare, Newton, Dickens, Darwin, Stephen Fry) but our capacity for dimness is often underrated. For the last ten years Marcus Berkmann has compiled a column in Private Eye documenting this undersung aspect of our national psyche by quoting many of the most amusingly idiotic answers given to quiz questions on TV and radio.
Going on quiz shows is nerve-racking, so why on earth do stupid people do it? A veteran of many quiz shows himself, Marcus will attempt to answer this question, illustrated with plentiful examples of the dumbest utterances ever to grace the nation's airwaves.
Marcus Berkmann
Marcus has written best-selling books on cricket, parenthood, and, naturally, quizzing. He writes a column on pop music for the Spectator, one on movies for the Oldie and in his spare time supplies bespoke quizzes for corporate events.
